Transcript from the Steve Deace show on 1040 am WHO radio (March 8, 2010) – edited for reading continuity:
Steve Deace: Let’s go Inside Politics with Craig Robinson of TheIowaRepublican.com. Craig, we had county conventions across the state over the weekend. Anything stand out to you from those?
Craig Robinson: You know, I went to the Dallas County Straw Poll on Friday night and then I went to the Polk County Convention on Saturday morning and the one thing that stuck out at me is the quality of the field of candidates that Republicans have up and down the ballot. You know I think we have two solid, and maybe exceptionally good, Secretary of State candidates. I think we have really great legislators. I was just impressed. I’m really proud of the caliber of candidate that we have. The guy who impressed me the most, at both events, was Matt Schultz, the young guy who’s running for Secretary of State. So many times it’s hard to get and to hold people’s attention on a race like that. He did a phenomenal job both Friday night and Saturday. I’ll be writing about that a little bit later in the week.
Steve Deace: What impresses you about him?
Craig Robinson: Just the ability to condense why you’re running into a five minute speech. And that’s all you’re going to get and that’s all the attention span that I have, to hold me, to let me focus on what you have to say. And I think that he has a message that I think you can actually take all the way into November. It’s simple, it’s easy to understand. It’s pro-jobs. It talks about securing our elections to make sure that they’re fair. And I think that’s a message that all he has to do is repeat that for like the next 200 and, I don’t know, some odd days, and I think he could win.
