Tea Party had mixed results in primary

His candidate didn’t win, but Iowa Tea Party Chairman Ryan Rhodes said the movement’s message did well in the Iowa primary election.

“Most of the candidates in the race started stealing the Tea Party lines,” said Rhodes, who doubled as political director for 3rd District Republican hopeful Dave Funk. “When their ads look like yours, you’re doing something right.”

The success the Tea Party had in having its message adopted by Republican candidates tells University of Iowa political science professor Tim Hagle that the 2010 election is more about economic issues than social issues.

It’s beginning to look like 1992 when Bill Clinton defeated President George Bush by campaigning on an “It’s the economy” slogan.

The Tea Party had some victories. Council Bluffs City Councilman Matt Schultz, who won the GOP nomination for secretary of state, came out of the Tea Party movement.

DES MOINES, Iowa – Team Iowa PAC would like to thank its supporters and congratulate its candidates after a successful primary night. Team Iowa PAC is proud to support these candidates and announce their overwhelming victories in Tuesday’s primaries.

In Senate District 45, former state lawmaker Sandy Greiner garnered an impressive 66% of the vote and will face incumbent Democrat State Sen. Becky Schmitz in November.

Council Bluffs City Councilman Matt Schultz won the Republican primary with 47% of the vote for Iowa’s Secretary of State. He will face incumbent Democrat Michael Mauro.

Story County Treasurer Dave Jamison won the Republican primary collecting 67% of the votes for Iowa State Treasurer. Jamison will face incumbent Democrat Michael Fitzgerald.

Although Team Iowa PAC’s candidate for Attorney General did not have an opponent in Tuesday’s primary, Republican nominee Brenna Findley continues to outwork her democrat opponent, incumbent Tom Miller.

Nick Ryan, Team Iowa PAC Chairman stated, “We are very pleased with Tuesday’s primary election results. Team Iowa PAC supporters made a choice for new conservative leadership in voting for these four candidates.”
